En Route to Berawa - Canggu

The well-known L'Osteria Pizza e Cucina from Ubud recently opened its doors in Berawa in a 2-storey sophisticated and rustic Tuscan interior. Vaulted ceiling, stucco walls, terracotta tiles and wooden furniture, a renaissance of the classic architectural techniques and decorating style of the Southern Italian region.

Serving traditional Tuscan cuisine, famously appreciated all over the world, it's the simplicity of the dishes that make this food so great and unique. The most dominant influence on Tuscan cooking is in fact the peasant tradition, straightforward, rustic, made from seasonal ingredients.

We have tried a selection of fare for you and must say, we loved all these freshly made regional delicacies. The Guazetto di Vongole, steamed clams with fresh diced tomatoes, croutons and chopped parsley, is a great appetizer to start off your culinary journey.

As we are big fans of Carpaccio, we tried the Carpaccio di Polpo, thinly sliced boiled octopus, drizzled with chopped tomatoes, capers, celery and mustard emulsion. A feast for the eyes and the taste buds. A true art of plating.

Of course, a Pizza Classiche is a must-try. The Pizza Burrata is served with a whole Burrata atop rucola and tomato confit. A true Neapolitan sourdough, fermented for 48hr and made with natural yeast, imported from Italy by the owner, inherited from la mama, making the pizza crust slightly firm on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

Be entertained and witness the live at your table preparation of the Bucatini Cacio e Pepe; a rich creamy combination of spaghetti, pecorino cheese and pepper carefully crafted at a precise water temperature, arriving at your table in a saucepan and finished in a cheese wheel torched before plating. Truly a unique experience both visually and gustatorily.

Last not but least, to end this culinary journey we opted for the classic Italian dessert, the Tiramisu. Rare enough to be noticed, the chef makes his own Savoiardi biscuits. This indulgent dessert is both light and creamy, a perfect treat to end a meal in awe.

Highly recommended to enjoy a taste of Tuscany in Canggu. Grazie per il viaggio culinario!
